How will NGA Sixth Form support me make my next steps?
Post-18 Support and Guidance
NGA Sixth Form boasts an enviable record of when it comes to the ongoing success of our students, whether that is at university, in employment or through apprenticeships. Key to this is the support and advice we give our pupils in making the right choice for them when they move on.
Advice is always at hand. In addition to subject staff and Sixth Form Tutors, we are fortunate enough to have the following organisations available:
The Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire Collaborative Outreach Programme is a partnership of universities and colleges from across two counties, working together to raise the aspirations of young people and support them to consider their futures. They aim to inspire and inform young people about their options and encourage them to think about higher education in all forms, including university, college-based higher education, and higher and degree apprenticeships.
DANCOP provide 1:1 meetings for NGA Sixth Formers and deliver workshops to NGA students to support confidence with interviews and presentation skills.
IntoUniversity is run by The University of Nottingham. They provide academic support, mentoring and programmes that promote young people’s aspirations.
We have established an enduring and very successful partnership with IntoUniversity and, as an NGA Sixth Former, there is free support from them throughout your journey with us.
All students attend a ‘Study Skills Workshop’ to best support note taking and revision across Level 3 subjects. There is also the opportunity to attend a free trip to The University of Nottingham for workshops on ‘Meeting new people’ and ‘Student Finance.’
Furthermore, they provide free weekly academic support for homework or studying at both of their centres as well as dedicated support for personal statement writing (a part of the UCAS University Application process), for any student that wants to apply.
IntoUniversity also provide other opportunities, including paid internships in Law, Asset Management and Banking to undertake during the Summer holidays.

Futures work with individuals and organisations to provide advice, guidance and practical support to help people achieve more in their careers and get more from life.
Students who are unsure about their Post 18 options can speak with Futures about other options, including apprenticeships and employment. Futures has worked closely and successfully with NGA Sixth Form for many years and offer 1:1 careers support.
Our on-site Careers Advisor provides excellent information regarding career opportunities, organises work experience and coordinates ‘BEE’ (Build Employability Experiences).
To help with careers choices, all Year 12 students are expected to complete a week of work experience in July. This is an excellent opportunity to gain or develop skills in an area of interest and previous students have enjoyed success within health care, education, medicine, charities, law firms, accountancy firms and community leisure centres.
