Nottingham Girls' Academy

Curriculum Model

The curriculum model at Nottingham Girls’ Academy is based on a 25-period week.

Key Stage 3

At Key Stage 3, the curriculum balances instruction in core subjects and those that make up the English Baccalaureate complemented with a broad selection of practical and creative subjects.

In Year 7 (as well as in some subjects in Year 8 and 9), pupils are largely taught in mixed ability groups. Based on KS2 standardised scores, some pupils who are markedly behind age-related expectations are taught within a nurture group, and in mathematics there is also a separate 'stretch and challenge' group.

Pupils cover aspects of both Geography and History in Year 9 Humanities lessons.

Key Stage 4

At Key Stage 4, all pupils are encouraged to follow the Triple Science pathway and those that might achieve a Strong Pass in the English Baccalaureate are encouraged to continue with both their humanity and Spanish on the EBacc pathway. Pupils may opt out of both or either pathway (and there is an additional opportunity to opt out of triple science pathway at the end of Year 10).

All pupils at Key Stage 4 study one additional option subject and those that are not following the EBacc pathway study a second. There is a broad range of both academic and vocational courses for pupils to select from.
